Cardinals Start Season Off With Win

Opening Day, one of the biggest days in the Major League Baseball season. What better way to start it off than with the St. Louis Cardinals against the reigning World Series Champion, Chicago Cubs. The two have a massive rivalry being not to far from each other and in the same division, the division that the Cardinals have mostly dominated in recent years besides last. The Cubs, winning their first World Series last November since 1908 and their first National League Championship since 1945, are the obvious favorites to win it again this year. The Cardinals had different plans on Opening Night. Sunday, April 2, 2017 was the night before the official Opening Day of the MLB season and the prime time game featured these two rivals. In a game that was mostly back and forth, featuring two well known pitchers in Carlos Martinez for the Cards and John Lackey for the Cubs, the Cardinals got the last laugh. Randal Grichuk, Cardinals’ outfielder, stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the 9th with runners on base and the game tied at 3. He singled to center scoring fellow outfielder, Jose Martinez, and winning the game in walk off fashion. The Cards and Cubs play again tonight at Busch Stadium in St. Louis and with 161 games left in the season, who knows who will step up. Stay tuned for further news stories, scores, and updates on the league including other teams in the MLB.
